In this blog we are going to present some differences and similarities in three stories which are Thucydides, Dingo and The German boy.
The first similarity I found between the story of Thucydides and Dingo is attachment to something or someone. In the first case, he is very attached to his love of Greek writing and especially to Thucydides. She liked the way he wrote and like some things that he left unfinished, he made things   more interesting. As she explains in the story: "but I remember Thucydides. I had my book case on my left, opposite the bed, and my desk - only a table, really - next to that, with my volume of Thucydides and a vocabulary book. " In the second story, dingo, the narrator at first did not feel affection or fondness for someone or something because he lived alone before. But after he met lucky, a dingo breed dog, he began to give all your love and feel love for someone. So you feel very depressed while lost or lucky. But then should have understood that she should follow his path to the pack.

Another similarity that I can make is between the story Thucydides and the German boy. in both case the characters avoid the realitySince the girl did not attend classes in Greek. And in the second case, the protagonist of “the German boy” escapes reality in the sense that he wants to tell his wife that his company is going through a rough financial time.
Another characteristic shared by the protagonists of the first and second story and loneliness. Since the girl, in my opinion, she felt lonely and so she sought refuge in reading and writing Greek. Furthermore, these characters share some sort of family problem, since the child's first book, create your putting the pope has a "lover" and that made her sad place. And the narrator of “the German boy” trust also has problem with his wife, it is not able to tell who is having problems with your company.

On of the differences between the first story is that , firstly, the personal context of the protagonists. In the first story the girl who is in school, she was preparing to give a similar test to the PSU here in Chile. She gives her A-levels.  The second story concerns a man who repairs fences and is in charge of livestock. The third story tells about a businessman who is having problems with his company.

Another difference is about the interests of the protagonists. The protagonist of the first story is in high school, she  reads and writes of Thucydides. In contrast, in the second story, the narrator is in charge of arranging the fences and other things and has no ambitions, leads a country life, so neither could aspire to something more. And in the third story, the narrator is a man who has established his company and family.

Another difference is the social class of the protagonists. In the first story we can infer that the girl has no economic problems, since parents are both professionals. They were teachers.  In the second story we can deduce that the protagonist works for a living day to day, as they note that it is a hard work and sacrifice which he does. And in the last story, the protagonist at first had no financial problems, but then he had to quit college because his father was in bankruptcy. But after achieving he moved forward and re-establishes the family business, but again he was having financial problems.

We may also mention the cultural differences between the characters.  First we draw the conclusion that the girl has a good cultural base, since his parents were teachers and girls also read a lot, and that helps in large part to your educational development. Second, we can conclude that the protagonist of dingo, is a humble man who had, perhaps, less privileged education that the first star. And thirdly, the businessman came to the university, specifically Oxford. Although he failed to complete his studies there, he started his own company.

Another thing to mention is the place where the characters lived. The first little girl lived in Swansea located in Wales. The second main character lived in the outback of Australia, in a small field where he handled the animals. And the last character, we can guess that he lived in a city of the United Kingdom.

These are some of the differences and similarities that I found in these three fascinating stories. Somehow, these readings have given us to think in terms of values and issues that we have in our daily life.

Preacher's delight

When Mister Boggis joined Rummis and the others, he realized that the legs of the commode had been cut; he watched them in awe as these valuable pieces had been so brutally destroyed. His eyes began to open, his face turned red and looking at all three men, asked.
What have you done?
We cut the legs.  You said you just needed them. What we did was save you the trouble of having to cut the legs on your own. The commode does not fit on your car or whatever you drive. Claud said
But you have gone mad, this piece of wood was very valuable, you do not know how much money you have lost by committing a stupidity as this. You have lost great deal of your life and I have missed the big sale of my life.
How? The great sale of your life!
Boggis does not know what to say, he just looked at that precious piece of furniture that had been destroyed.
Minutes of silence between the four men became.
What are you? Are you a clergyman or not?
Okay, now I have lost a valuable old piece of art, I have no more than telling the truth because I have been doing all this. I must be honest with you. The problem is that I am not a clergyman, I am a big seller of antique furniture and a while I have been touring these places, because here is where it concentrates much of the types of furniture that I like and which I do big businessI dare say I am a person who knows most about antique furniture in London.
Why are you dressed like this?
No one would question a clergyman, and no one would deny him entry to his home and was the easiest way to find out if there had such precious treasures as you have just ruined
Then everything you said about this commode is a lie. That means that you were deceiving us all this time. You said it was only an imitation, so this furniture is really original. Said Rummis

The three men were amazed at how this man dressed like a clergyman, could deceive them or rather swindle them.
While Mister Boggis looked with his face disfigured and almost overwhelming grief, Claud, and Bert and Rummis decided to punishment him because of that huge lie about the furniture. They decided that Mister Boggis had to claim in some way by what he had done to them.
So what are we going to do with this commode?
You lost and we too, so it is best to think of an answer for this problem.
Mr. Boggis did not know what to do with this situation.
But suddenly illuminated his mind and thought that if he was about to fool these three men could do it with someone else. So he proposed to the three guys who go with him the other farms and see if they could find others furniture as that had been destroyed recently.
Guys discussed the proposal and reached a consensus, they decided go with him, as it was a good way to earn money easily. Also, Mr. Boggis was "supposedly” one of the wisest people of antique furniture in London, it would facilitate things, they thought.
Let's begin the next farm. The clergyman told them.
Whereas Mister Boggis was driving, he told them stories of how he emerged this fondness for antique furniture. What there were the techniques he used to convince people about the society, which he had gained entry to homes, to win the confidence of the people who live in, and to achieve his goal, rare and antique furniture.
Before reaching the next farm and that probably he would find out what he was looking, Mr. Boggis created plan with the others in the group. As always Mr. Boggis parked his car outside the farms and made his way by foot towards its target. Arriving there, he could see that the house was beautiful people who lived there were concerned about the decoration of the house.
He knocked on the door, waiting for someone to open the door, he arranged his clothes.
A beautiful woman showed up. Mister Boggis was very nervous when he saw that woman so beautiful.
What is it you want? The woman asked.
Oh, Mr. Boggis exclaimed. As he always explained what society’s goals, the preservation of antique furniture and so on.
The woman let him get into the house. There, he will explain in detail what it was that society. But Mr. Boggis immediately realized that there was nothing that could be interesting for him. He was just wasting his time. He thought.
So he tried to shorten the visit in that house and use his time in another house which according to his map was about 5 miles away.
He finished his explanation. He could not stop looking at the woman, with anxious and nervous even said goodbye to her.
Back to the car, where the others guys were waiting for him expectantly. He explained what had happened in the woman's house.
The guys did not give up and decided to continue with the plan and cover the other areas.
So they began the journey, hoping that his next destination would bring them luck.

Work & Family

What is family for us? As we know, family is the principal institution for society. Everybody in his life has thought to have a family and live happy forever. Meanwhile the world of work, is another of the pillars which support the social development, it becomes the primary means of meeting human needs. Thus we can argue that family and work are two basic social pillars for the development of society, which can not be separated, as they require each other.
Many times we think that have to work for earning much money that we have. But we neglect our family trying to get money and buy many things for us, things that maybe have no importance. in this globalized world maybe people’s mentality have altered in a bad way. For that reason the relationship between work and family has changed. Money and work are present in the family’s discussions, either because they lack the money or because parents often do not have time to spend with her children and husband or wife, they begin to create a rejection ratio that often leads to separate families for reasons as basic and almost unnecessary. It is very cruel to feel that your life project collapses and suddenly materials things are more important than your family.
Nowadays, Jobs and families both demand enormous commitments of time and energy especially during family formation. Jobs usually consume a third of a person’s day. The investigations show that the stress of not being able to adequately fulfill one of his two roles reduces the performance of the parents and child for purposes of control, the family is always injured. It should have a balance between working hours and time for people to share with their family. Proper integration between family and work are the solutions to avoid any conflict in this area and ensure that no harm legitimate family aspirations. Therefore, it is necessary a cultural change to better the family and not to miss the value of the family.
